After completing a Bachelor of Arts with an accounting major at Macquarie
University, John became a Chartered Accountant in 1975, and is now a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He also has his Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning).

John worked in a large multinational firm in audit, tax and accounting before co-founding Rhodes Docherty & Co in 1979. The firm merged with the Gordon accounting practice Russel Hughes & Bond (RHB) in 2002. Then on 1 September 2008 Rhodes Docherty & Co merged with the Chatswood firm, M.S. Tunstall & Co.

John provides comprehensive business, financial planning, investment and tax advice. He believes that helping clients to achieve their goals is best done by ensuring that they adopt a business structure suited to their interests and activities, whether it be a company, trust, or sole tradership. This important advice is backed up with the preparation of cashflow and profit forecasts as well as the development of comprehensive business plans.

John also provides clients with advice across a broad range of areas, including tax, superannuation advice and audits, valuations of businesses and strategic planning, management accounting, mergers, sales, acquisitions and small business consulting.

John's interests outside of work revolve around his family - he is married with four children - and sport. John is an avid cyclist and particularly enjoys long distance touring.

Maria provides the Audit and Assurance leadership role within the firm and heads the Audit and Assurance Division. Before joining Rhodes Docherty & Co in June 2002, she worked in a Chartered Accounting firm in Sydney’s CBD from 1999 and prior to that as an accountant in South Africa. By working in South Africa and Australia, Maria has been able to gain international experience providing her with the global perspective necessary to better assist her clients’ needs in an expanding global market place. Maria specialises in the audit of small to large proprietary companies, incorporated associations, not for profit bodies and Australian Financial Services Licence Holders. Maria has also developed a high level of skill and experience in accounting and taxation and manages an extensive portfolio of small to medium sized clients across a wide range of industries. This wide range of expertise is used to provide meaningful, cost effective assistance to clients in a range of business issues.

Maria enjoys sporting activities such as walking, gym and spin classes. She also enjoys travelling and spending time with her family.

Carol hails from South Africa, where she gained a Bachelor of Commerce
and Diploma in Accounting from the University of Natal. She initially worked as a group accountant for various companies before honing her skills as an insolvency accountant.  A move to New Zealand saw her continue her work in this area, becoming a Chartered Accountant and taking on the role of financial controller for a stevedoring company.

Carol joined us in November 2002 and heads up our superannuation division.

Carol is an outdoors person - she enjoys going to the beach and playing tennis, as well as going to the gym.

Mark joined Price Waterhouse upon leaving school and completed a
Bachelor of Commerce at University of New South Wales. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1976 and was admitted as a Fellow to the Institute in 1983.

In 1978 he left the tax section of Price Waterhouse to go into public practice specialising in taxation advice for individuals and small business.

Mark is married with two adult children. At home, he enjoys spending time reading and gardening; away from home he and his wife spend time at their cottage in the country.

Brendan, who has an Advanced Diploma in Accounting, joined us after
moving to Sydney from Canberra in March 1998.

Brendan specialises in tax and accounting for most entities. He also provides assistance to clients in setting up and using software such as MYOB.

Most of Brendan's time outside the office is spent in the Great Outdoors
- he is a sportsman and enjoys a broad range of sporting activities.

Jae joined Rhodes Docherty in August 2006. Jae currently holds an Advanced Diploma of Accounting and a Bachelor of Business & Professional Accounting. He is currently completing the CA programme to qualify as a Chartered Accountant.

When Jae has free time, he likes to play sport outdoors and go to the gym. His favourite hobbies include tennis, fishing and weekend nights out with friends.

Joyce joined the firm in December 1986. Prior to this she spent 11 years in the Business Services Department of Touche Ross & Co. She also has international experience, having worked in accounting roles in London and South Africa.

Joyce's focus is mainly on clients who need advice with tax and personal investment issues. She also prepares financial accounts and looks after Company Title Units.

Joyce's hobbies include playing bridge and sports (especially cricket & tennis), and she also enjoys the odd quiet night in listening to music.

Prior to embarking on a career in public accountancy, Bill had twenty four years banking and corporate experience with Citibank as General Manager. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Bill provides accounting and taxation services (specializing in MYOB) to small and medium companies.

Bill is married with two daughters and lives in the area. He plays tennis and enjoys reading, rugby and soccer.

Tanya joined the firm in January 2009. She holds an Advanced Diploma of Accounting and is currently completing a Bachelor of Business (Accounting).

Tanya loves lots of outdoor activities. Her favourite way to spend the weekend is to go bushwalking with family and friends at the National Park.

Athena joined the firm in January 2005 after commencing her studies
towards the Advanced Diploma in Accounting. Her previous career spanned a variety of roles in sales, marketing and management in companies from small business to major multi-national.

Besides work and study, she enjoys caring for her son and playing sport.

Mandy obtained a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from the University of Johannesburg and qualified as a CA(SA) before moving to Sydney from South Africa in February 2006. She worked for Ernst and Young in the audit and financial statements preparation departments until joining us in October 2010.

She became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA), after completing the conversion course in 2007.

Mandy is married with one daughter and enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and scrapbooking.

Gillian trained as a librarian and worked at the University of Sydney and Price Waterhouse. For the past 10 years she has worked in public accountancy dividing her time between office administration and preparation of individual tax returns.

In her spare time she enjoys making patchwork quilts, embroidery, reading, gardening and spending time with family and friends

Joanne joined the firm in November 2009.  She currently holds a Master of Professional Accounting from University of New South Wales.  She plans to complete a Certified Practicing Accounting programme at the end of 2011.  She specialises in tax and accounting for small business entities and individuals.

Joanne is an outdoor person.  She enjoys cycling, bush walking and going to the beach.  

With bachelor degrees in Science and Commerce, Francis became a Chartered Accountant in 1979. She gained her taxation experience during 15 years at Price Waterhouse. As a tax manager she advised large corporations and individuals whilst building particular expertise in assisting United States and other expatriates with their taxation obligations and in NSW land tax matters.

In 1988 she retired temporarily to devote more time to her family. She recommenced working part time briefly as an analyst and educator in a financial research house before returning about 16 years ago to assisting individuals with taxation compliance in the practices of Mark Tunstall and his former partners in Chatswood.

Outside work Francis, a widow with two children, is actively involved in community heritage and adoption organizations as well as her family's business interests.

Yun joined the firm in March 2012. She holds a Master of Business from the University of Technology, Sydney with an accounting and finance major. She is currently undertaking the CPA Program which she plans to complete by the end of December 2012. 

In her spare time, Yun enjoys jogging, badminton and swimming. She also likes to stay together with family and friends.
