After completing a Bachelor of Arts with an accounting major at Macquarie
University, John became a Chartered Accountant in 1975, and is now a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He also has his Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) and is a member of the Securities and Derivatives Industry Association, which enables him to give advice on direct share investments.

John worked in a large multinational firm in audit, tax and accounting before co-founding Rhodes Docherty & Co in 1979. The firm merged with the Gordon accounting practice Russel Hughes & Bond (RHB) in 2002. Then on 1 September 2008 Rhodes Docherty & Co merged with the Chatswood firm, M.S. Tunstall & Co.

John provides comprehensive business, financial planning, investment and tax advice. He believes that helping clients to achieve their goals is best done by ensuring that they adopt a business structure suited to their interests and activities, whether it be a company, trust, or sole tradership. This important advice is backed up with the preparation of cashflow and profit forecasts as well as the development of comprehensive business plans.

John also provides clients with advice across a broad range of areas, including tax, superannuation advice and audits, valuations of businesses and strategic planning, management accounting, mergers, sales, acquisitions and small business consulting.

John's interests outside of work revolve around his family - he is married with four children - and sport. John is an avid cyclist and particularly enjoys long distance touring.
